At least six people killed in a suicide blast in Galkayo town

A witness says six people, including two senior army officials, were confirmed dead and 10 others injured in a deadly suicide explosion in central Somalia on Saturday morning.

The bomber targeted troops in the town of Galkayo, killing Col Abdihukun Abdullahi, known as [Horeeye] and another official identified as Abdiqani Ahmed.

Late Abdullahi was the commander of the newly formed joint forces tasked with the city’s security by Somali federal government.

A local Police officer told Radio Shabelle that four more soldiers were also killed in the attack that has ripped through the volatile town in Mudug region.

Al Shabaab has claimed the credit for the suicide bombing through a statement posted on its affiliated websites, saying it killed at least five military commenders.
