Suspected Al-Shabaab assailants have shot and killed a prominent Somali elder in Mogadishu on Sunday afternoon, the latest in a string of killings in the country’s capital.
The Elder, Sheikh Saleban Abikar Fooldhere was killed near his house in Dharkenley district by two men armed with pistols, who are believed to be Al-Shabaab members.
The killers have managed to immediately escape from the crime scene on foot before the arrival of Somali security forces, who later carried out an investigation into the murder.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but, Al-Shabaab, an Al Qaeda-affiliated militant group in Somalia has in the past carried out such killings in the city.
The motive behind Fooldhere’s assassinations remains unclear, however, residents in his village say he has participated in the last year’s parliamentary election.
