Somali foreign minister meets with Russian, Qatari and Kosovo counterparts

Somalia’s minister of foreign affairs, Ahmed Isse Awad has held meetings with his Russian, Qatari and Kosovo counterparts in New York on the sidelines of the UN general assembly.

The government of Russia has pledged support for the Somali government in its reinforced fight against terrorism in the horn of African nation.

Moscow has said that it has plans to help Somalia in her efforts against extremism and terrorism headlined by rebel groups including Al-Shabaab and ISIS in a meeting held in New York on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly.

The meeting happened between Somali Foreign Minister, Ahmed Awad Issa and his Russian counterpart Sergey on Tuesday.

Mr. Lavrov expressed support for the anti-terrorism efforts of Somalia’s federal authorities and the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia.

“At the meeting with FM of Somalia Ahmed Isse Awad, Lavrov expressed support for the steps on the antiterrorist direction by the federal authorities & AfricanUnion Peace Mission in Somalia,” Russian UN Mission said in a statement.

Also, Mr Awad met with his Kosovo counterpart in New York and discussed key issues regarding the relations between the two countries.

On the sidelines of the 73rd session of the UNGA he Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, HE Amb. Ahmed Awad, discussed with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo, HE Behgjet Pacolli, the common interests & partnership.
