Mohamed Mursal Abdirahman, the newly elected Parliament speaker of Somali parliament has officially resumed office following his election last Monday.
Abdirahman took power from Mohamed Osman Jawari during a handover event held at Villa Somalia in Mogadishu, the Somali capital on Thursday.
Members of Somali cabinet, lawmakers, government officials, former speaker and the Parliament secretariat have attended the ceremony.
The newly elected speaker commended Jawari for his commitment and the tireless work he did during his tenure of Speakership.
Abdirahman who also served as Somalia’s ambassador to Turkey was elected in a hotly contested race to fill the office of the speaker vacated by Jawari who resigned last Month.
